Harnessing youth potential through dynamic spirituality is the motto of CHYK and in a city that symbolizes dynamism, CHYK Mumbai, does just that. It strives to inspire the vibrant youngsters by providing them a platform to explore their hidden potentials, discuss and practice Vedanta through classes, camps, outdoor adventures, movie workshops, Chyk Relay yagnas, Theater, etc. Amidst the fast paced city life, it makes them take a pause to explore the vast treasures of ancient knowledge and incorporate it into the modern lifestyles. It takes up projects of national importance so that the youngsters learn the joy of teamwork and discover the clarity, efficiency and contentment that they seek while strengthening their lives in every endeavor.
In the year 1974, Gurudev, Swami Chinmayananda, conducted his first youth camp in Chennai on the text Bhaja Govindam. That was the turning point for a handful of youngsters from Mumbai who attended the camp. Sometime later in 1976, Gurudev gave a talk in a youth meet that was held here in Mumbai which then inspired many more youngsters to study Vedanta on a regular basis. That urge gave rise to 5 study classes in Mumbai.
Some very interesting Chyk initiatives started then were dance ballets, Chyk Soul Song nights wherein the Chyks used to sing bhajans with live music and dance, entertaining and inspiring the audience through an audio-visual experience. Also the first concert by MS Subbulaxmi was hosted by Chyk Mumbai in 1980.
From then to now, the tradition of finding innovative methods to convey the richness of our culture and the depth of our knowledge continues in Chyk Mumbai!
