During the ongoing Deepavali Festival, on Sunday 15th November 2020, under Chinmaya Mission Mumbai’s “Maximising Happiness” initiative, ANNA DAAN was done in Chinmaya Prakash Zone in Juhu by distributing one month’s ration (the kit included 2 lt oil, 5 kg wheat atta, 3 kg sugar, 250 gm tea, 3 kg dal, 5 kg rice, salt packets) to more than 100 slum dwellers of Nehru Nagar.
Nehru Nagar is the place where economically challenged people like maids, servants, drivers, etc live. Sri. Mutthukumar who is a social worker, helped us to identify the needy families. Some are widows, some are senior citizens and some who do not have jobs. Sri. Mutthukumar himself is vertically challenged but he stands tall in his spirit of service.
He is a graduate from Mithibhai College, Commerce section. He teaches students who fail in 8th and 9th standards and trains them. Some of his students have also become volunteers who help him in social work. He and his team members were present for the Annadaan.
Our Zonal team also had called around 54 people from Vile Parle Municipal School who needed ration. 48 of them were very honest and said that they now have jobs and do not need the ration. 6 of them expressed the need and so they were also given the rations.
Swami Swatmananda, Zonal President Smt. Meghana Patel, the Zonal team in-charge of Annadaan - Smt. Suhasini Lohia and Smt. Ami Agarwal were also present. Smt. Shashi Binani who is a part of the Zonal team also did a lot of co-ordination for the seva. We thank one and all involved in this noble endeavour.
