Talk on Sri Durga Suktam:
Sri Durga Suktam’s Mantras are found in scattered in the Rig Veda. After compilation by Bhagwan Veda Vyas, it’s found in Krishna Yajur Veda in Maha Narayan Upanishad. “Om Sah na vavatu...” is it’s shanti mantra. Mananaat traayate ito mantrah”. Mantra is that which helps to cross over samsara. One should do Japam of this Suktam to overcome problems and invoke the grace of Lords - Durga, Indra and Agni all three in one (Suktam). Out of seven mantras of this Suktam, the second mantra has Durga Devi’s name; seventh mantra has Indra’s and rest have Agni’s name. There is a prayer to Agni to guard one’s spiritual fire at all three levels - aadhi daivik, aadhi bhautik and aadhyatmic. The seeker surrenders to Agni and requests Him to burn all his papa karma. The second mantra is directly describing Durga Devi. “Sukhen prapyate iti Durga “ - with much difficulty one gets is Durga because generally Bhagwan is shaant , so to please, invoke Lord ‘s samharak shakti is very difficult.
Durga helps us to come out of durgati- gati, in this life and after life. Seeker prays to Her to take away the ignorance in him and awaken the Jnan Chakshu. One whose third eye is open can only see this!
Mantra seventh is addressed to Indra. Here Indra is not ordinary devata but the Supreme Lord. Sadhak is not asking for Bhoga vritti, but to be able to serve the society seeing Bhagwan in all.
Swami ji took us to the depth of Sri Durga Suktam to show us unseen path, walking on which one would overcome the durgati !!
