Shlokas are the root of Hindu culture. Twelve Bala Vihar children from Mahima zone, 7 to 12 years old, participated in the chanting of shlokas – Guru Ashtakam, Lingaashtakam and Meenakshi Pancharatnam. They were from the classes of Mangalaji, Vijayaji and Jayashriji. The judges, Smt. Lakshmi Krishnamoorthy and Shri Subramanian Chidambaram, eminent Sanskrit scholars, judged the children for right pronunciation of the Sanskrit verses, memory and overall form and presentation.
The children chanted in front of Lord Shiva’s sanctum. The verses reverberated in the vast hall, blessed by the presence of many great saintly souls. The Mattham members offered their gratitude and honoured the judges. All the children were given Certificates of Participation. Prize-winners were felicitated with cash awards. Consolation cash awards were given to all other participants by Mattham chief priest, Thiru Ganesha Sastrigal. The enthusiastic children, sevikas and parents made this event memorable.
