Birthday Havan
We have been celebrating our Children’s Birthday every year in a regular pattern of calling children’s
friends, having games, blowing off candles and cutting of cake. Its all so much fun. Some where
along the way in our hectic lives we are missing out on how our parents celebrated our own
Birthday’s. I remember my Mom taking me to Temple on the morning of my birthday .
Jagadeeshwara zone ,powai Mumbai, has launched a ‘Free Birthday Havan’ (Aayush havan) to be
performed on the first Sunday of every month. Children having their birthdays in a particular month
can register for the Havan to be conducted on the first Sunday of that month, timings are from 9.30
to 11.30. Havan is from 9.30 to 10.30 am and 1 hour ie 10.30 to 11.30 is Bal Vihar.
This was launched on the auspicious day of Maha Shivratri when lakhs of Mumbaikars visited Powai
Temple for darshan of Lord Shiva. The Jagadeeshwara zone , powai Mumbai had a stall with tag line
“ Celebrate your Children’s Birthday with Ganesha, Krishna, Hanuman “ which was a hit and
hundreds registered on the spot for this free birthday havan.
Jagadeeshwara zone while thinking as how to increase number of children in bal vihar came up with
this idea of Free Birthday Havan where through what’s up, and social media the message of Birthday
Havan goes to all. When new families come in to celebrate their children’s Birthday Havan they are
introduced to Bal Vihar and Chyk . Here no cost is involved for families all can celebrate their
Birthday at Mission and new families can be told of different activities of Mission for Children and
grown ups. This is a cost effective and mass scale activity which can be taken up. This also involves
less time ie first Sunday of every month for about 2 hours.
On March 13th the first Free Group Birthday Havan was celebrated at the Powai temple. After initial
registration, bramachari student’s of Chinmaya Mission sang beautiful bhajans , This was followed by
a small talk by MLP Rao the Acharya of Jagadeshware Zone of Chinmaya Mission. He spoke on the
importance of Havan in our lives and how children are benefitted.
This was followed by the Birthday Havan at the yagya shalla attached to the main Shiva Temple. It
was a beautiful sight in the green surroundings with birds chirping and the punditji lighting the
yagna with holy fire reciting the vedic mantras.
Small children from toddlers in mothers arms to kids looked at the Holy fire trying to understang the
vedic mantras being recited for their long and healthy life. Some of the kids were also restless and
trying to discover new things in this new surrounding with mothers catching pulling them back.
The Aayush Havan started by invoking Lord Ganesha and kul Devi andlater concluded with
poornahooti.
After the poornahooti the panditji adorned the foreheads of all Birthday Children with vibhooti from
the Havan Kund and all were given Prasad and Bal Vihar Magzine.
This was followed by an introduction to balvihar, the free Sunday class for kids aged between 5 years
and 12 years .
