MahaShivaratri Celebrations 26th Feb, 2025
Chinmaya Jayam Balavihar along with their new Shishu Vihar class had a wonderful Mahashivaratri celebration.
Children performed Panchamrut Abhishek to the chanting of Lingashtakam, followed by offering of Bilva leaves and chanting of Bilvashtakam.
The significance of each of the Panchamrut was explained and
there was also enthusiastic singing of Shiv bhajan by the children.
The highlight of celebration was a tableau and narration of inspiring story of the great Shiva Bhakta – Nandanar.
A brief synopsis of the story:
Nandanar was a great devotee of Lord Shiva, however, he was not allowed entry into the Shiva temple of the village where he resided as he belonged to a lower caste. He tried & longed to have Darshan of Shiva Lingam from outside the temple but there was a massive Nandi in front of the Lingam which obstructed his view. Such was the intensity and purity of his devotion that one day as per the command given by Lord Shiva ,Nandiji moved and he was finally able to have darshan of his Lord.
To the present day Nandiji appears to be in a tilted form at Shivalokanathar Temple in Tirupunkur in South India.
This moving of Nandiji and revealing of the Lord was actually depicted with the help of the tableau.Children were enthralled to watch this and thereafter they were encouraged to share the lessons learnt by them from this incident.
The event concluded with prayers and distribution of Prasad.
