Sagar Zone celebrated Makar Sankranti

Sagar Zone celebrated Makar Sankranti on 14th January. Smt. Varsha Dalal chanted and explained the significance of the Aaditya Hridayam Stotram.

In Bharat, Makar Sankranti is celebrated through all the Yuga-s. The festival is dedicated to the Sun God and marks the first day of the Sun’s transition into Capricorn or Makar in Sanskrit.

Makar Sankranti is celebrated throughout all the regions of India by different names. In Tamil Nadu, it is celebrated as Pongal for four days. In Kerala, as Sabarimala, where the Makar Jyothi is visible, followed by the Makar Vilakku celebrations.

It’s very interesting to know that Bhagwan Ram was the first one to fly the kite which had reached to Indra in Swarga Loka. In Bengal, a huge fair is organised every year in Ganga Sagar. Bhagirath did Tarpan on this particular day for the liberation of his 60,000 ancestors.

For many, the reason to celebrate Makar Sankranti is to celebrate the Harvest Season, but for a spiritual seeker, this day is very auspicious as we pray to the Presiding deity of Intellect to bless us so that we can experience That Aaditya which is self effulgent. This Sun is a symbol, which shines due to That One Alone!! Through 'Vedmata' Gayatri Devi, the essence of Vedic Knowledge, we are actually worshipping Lord Sun, who teaches us tireless selfless service, unconditional love for all and brilliance of knowledge.

Smt. Sandhya Uberoi chanted the Gayatri Mantra 108 times with perfect intonations and transported 69 devotees to the realm of brilliance and quietude.
